An Open Letter To My Nephews

To my nephews,

Right now, you're so little but eventually, I will feel like I blinked my eyes, and you became a man overnight.

When that day comes, there are some things that I want you to know.

It's okay if they call you old-fashioned. Shake her dad's hand and hold the door open for her and her mom.

If you can't afford to tip your server, eat at home.

Dream big and live passionately. Life is too short to be anything but happy.

Always take good care of your dog.

Be adventurous and take risks; travel, visit new places, try new things.

There will never be a time where you know everything, even if you feel like you do.

Pray for your friends and check on them.

It's okay to cry. It's okay to wear your heart on your sleeve.

Be proud of who you love.

If you aren't happy with someone, break up with them. BUT NEVER move onto someone else until you have called things off.

Find someone who makes you a better man all around. If she doesn't get along with your mom, she's probably not the one.

A healthy lifestyle in your youth will mean a healthier future. Drink your water. Eat your fruits and veggies. Get some sort of excercise.

It's great to be confident, but make sure you never confuse confident and conceited. Always stay humble.

You may think you're the best at something, but never let that prevent you from working hard. There will always be someone better coming around the corner in careers, sports, nearly anything in life.

If you see someone getting bullied, stand up for them.

If you hear of a child, animal, or elder getting abused or neglected, DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT.

You're never too old to hug your mom or tell your dad you love him.

Visit your Grandparents. You'll NEVER look back and think you spent too much time with them.

Always thank a veteran and stand for the national anthem.

If entrusted with a secret, you better keep it.

ALWAYS return something borrowed in better condition than you received it.

Be respectful, even when your heart feels shattered into a million pieces.

No matter where life takes you, make sure you can always find your way back home to those who love you.

and know that I love you a bushel and a peck
